June is just around the corner, when Summer is supposed to arrive !
June 21 is the longest day of the year, and the extra light and warmth encourages the garden to put on an exuberant burst of growth. But this extra light and warmth also means weeds will sprout up from seemingly nowhere. Keep on top of them by hoeing regularly in dry conditions, or call me in to do it for you! 07930 576 321
Position summer hanging baskets and containers outside
Choose vibrant bedding plants for a short-term show or herbs, shrubs and evergreens for a long-lasting display.
Pinch out sideshoots on tomatoes
Removing the side-shoots is simple – every time you water, check the plant for any shoots sprouting just above each leaf, from the joint between the leaf and the stem.
Cut and come again salads
Produce your own mixed salads by growing a range of leafy salads and vegetables that can be cut and will then sprout (come) again. Harvesting the young leaves when you need them prevents plants from maturing and ensures several harvests of small, tender, mild-flavoured leaves over a long period of time.
Mow lawns at least once a week – or call me in to do that for you 07930 576 321

Many spring-flowering shrubs will need pruning
